Last month, Beckie & Debs had the pleasure of attending the Employee Engagement Champions event hosted by The Happiness Index at Everyman Kings Cross. This event was a feast of ideas and inspiration centred around maximizing team performance and nurturing a culture of brilliance. We are excited to share some of the standout insights that left us motivated so here are our highlights from the event that resonated with us:

Championing Change - Karen Dobres, Ambassador for Lewes Football Club, shared the empowering story of how their club's commitment to equality set a powerful example by paying female players equally. This move emphasized shared values and demonstrated a strong business model.

Clarity for Winning Teams - Gemma Kracsucka, from Leicester City Football Club, emphasized the importance of clarity in team success—aligning team members with a clear vision and purpose beyond themselves.

Enabling High Performance through Environment - Richard Bridgewater of British Cycling highlighted the role of organisational environment in enabling high-performing teams: clear purpose, adaptability, and a foundation of trust and support among team members.

The Science of Sustained Performance - Victoria Hall and Clive Hyland, Founders of Make Sense, stressed the significance of downtime for self-care in sustaining high performance—a vital stage for peak productivity.

Taking Time for Ourselves - Emma Djemil from The HR Club reminded us of the importance of self-care amidst the busy HR landscape. Sometimes, taking just 5 minutes for ourselves can recharge our ability to support others effectively.

Embracing Growth - Anna Mosley, Founder of Eighty, shared a unique analogy of lobsters shedding their skin multiple times as they grow—a powerful metaphor for embracing change, overcoming perfectionism, and fostering a growth mindset in leadership.

Creating a Learning Culture - Alice Svoboda from Good Habitz emphasized the necessity of cultivating a learning culture from the top down. Leading by example in personal and team development sets the tone for continuous improvement within the organisation.

The Value of Content and Connections - Justin Cochrane, former professional footballer and Head Coach at Brentford FC, highlighted the importance of human connection in leveraging knowledge and skills effectively. Content and expertise are valuable, but meaningful connections are essential for their impact.
